Is Starting Your Small Business Online The New Black?

Online Literacy - A 'Must Have' Skill for Starting Your Small Online Business

Everyone used to be educated in the 3Rs.  Reading, wRiting and 'Rithmetic once upon a time was enough to get you a job for life.

But there is no such thing as a job for life today.  So what can you do to prepare yourself for our dramatically changed conditions?

Today a 4th skill is required if you want to be sure of maintaining your financial independence.  Today's 'must have' skill is Online Literacy.

 What is Online Literacy?

When you have online literacy, you know a little about setting up a webpage or blog.  You are familiar with some of the jargon that surrounds IT on the internet.  You know about social networking.  You understand what SEO (Search Engine Oprimisation) is.  You are familiar with the concept of affiliate sites and you know a little about marketing online.

Why Bother with Online Literacy?

The world has changed and we have to rely on ourselves, not on the government, our employers or anyone else to take care of us.  Having Online Literacy skills mean you can:
  •  Set up your own full-time internet business.
  • Set up a part-time drop-ship or affiliate business
  • Sell your skills as a consultant.
  • Understand when a site is genuinely an information site, or is selling you something.
  • Offer potential employers a range of skills they will find very attractive.
 Where Is Online Literacy Taught?

As usual, the official education system is years behind the curve.  Few of these skills are taught in  colleges today.  Standard training organisations are not yet offering them in any organised way.

The place you will find many materials to help you develop your online literacy skills is, unsurprisingly, online.

There is a lot of free information as well as courses that are charged for online.  Get your toes wet with a free, no obligation 5 part introduction to starting an Affiliate Business and work your way out from there.

And good luck.
